The people of Afghanistan are facing a humanitarian crisis. Several citizens of the country are facing a severe food crisis. This has prompted the government of India to extend a helping hand in the direction of their neighbors. In line with this, the Government is sending 20,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan. India sent a previous assistance in the form of 40,000 metric tonnes of wheat.

The government of India sent the previous assistance through the land border of Pakistan. Meanwhile, the present project seeks to use the Chabahar port of Iran to carry 20,000 metric tonnes of wheat. Out of this, the port has already helped in transportation of 2,500 metric tonnes of wheat. This shipment will arrive at the province of Herat during this week. The reports suggest that using the port of Iran is a smart decision on the part of the government of India.

This decision avoids the hassle caused due to the land borders. Additionally, it also helps in promoting regional collaboration between nations. The government of India has always prioritized the idea of Neighborhood first and “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. The latter translates as “The world is a family”. Further, by taking this initiative, the government of India is reinforcing their commitment to supporting stability and prosperity in Afghanistan.

For this reason, the government has opened and widened several channels for distribution of aid. Meanwhile, the foreign affairs ministry of India has taken the opportunity to address the issue of the Afghanistan embassy in New Delhi. According to reports, the serving Ambassador of Afghanistan was a representative of the former government of the country. He was serving as a representative of Afghanistan to India for almost two years since the reign shifted.

Now, the “new government” has named their representative. The “new representative of Afghanistan” Qadir shah is facing opposition from the embassy staff and diplomats. Meanwhile, the country has clarified that this is an internal matter, which they will address on their own.
