St Kitts and Nevis: Senior Calypso Monarch concludes, Results here

The Senior Calypso Monarch contest, sponsored by FLOW for this year’s presentation, was concluded successfully in the early hours of Friday, December 30, 2022. Following the performances of the ten contenders for the title, St Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) announced the pageant results. 

According to the update by St Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee, Queen Independent was declared the Senior Calypso Monarch for 2022-23. Further, St Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee also announced the first and second runners-up names.

King Socrates secured the Position of First Runner Up.

Queen Diva grabbed the position of the second runner-up, and Queeny G secured the place of the third runner-up.

The following was the order of the Senior Calypso Monarch performances:

  1. Kimara Williams (Queen Diva)
  2. Gloria Esdaille Robinson (Queen Queeny G)
  3. Learie Hobson (King Honesty)
  4. Nathalie Charles (Empress Lyrics)
  5. Oscar Browne (King Astro)
  6. Sylvester Hodge (King Socrates)
  7. Andrew Nisbett (King Hollywood)
  8. Karisia Willett (Queen Independent)
  9. Craig McDowell (King Craig)
  10. Kibiane Willett (Queen Kibi)

All the Flow Senior Calypso Monarch contestants performed two songs each for the competition.

After the declaration of results, the Minister of Creative Economy, Samal Duggins, took to his social media to congratulate the Senior Calypso Monarch Contest winners. It is worth a mention that Minister Duggins is also responsible for the National Carnival.

He wrote on his social media: The Ladies dominated last night’s Senior Calypso Monarch competition!

He congratulated Queen Independent, who took home the top spot. At the same time, he said, they must credit the runners-up and all participants who left it all on the stage.

He further expressed in the Facebook post that Calypso is alive and well. I acknowledge the hard work of the committee, subcommittee, bands and calypsonians who continue to promote the art form.

St Kitts and Nevis’s most anticipated national carnival is steadily drawing to its close. The National Carnival Committee shares their committment towards ensuring the execution of the last few events in the itinerary. The preliminary events for the Sugar Mas 51 started on November 25.
