The Ngaoundéré region of Cameroon has witnessed a young woman’s tragic death during treatment. The authorities of the Ngaoundéré region in Cameroon admitted Rougayatou Goni, aged 23, to the emergency unit of the Ngaoundéré Regional Hospital. Here they carried out several carried out series of examinations on their patient.

The said examinations took place on Tuesday, May 09, 2023. Even after the family insisted, the laboratory service was slow to hand over the results. It was only around 4:00 PM. that the results were released. According to the patient’s family, around 6:00 PM, the laboratory service still came to take samples from her hand, cut part of her skin, and then pressed her ears until blood started flowing out.

After asking for explanations, they didn’t say a word. Before the examinations, their daughter was doing very well and conscious. On the morning of the next day, May 10, 2023, Rougayatou’s breathing began to change. Following this, the family learnt that she had died. The personnel on duty asked the whole family to vacate the room so that they could disinfect it.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities pressured the girl’s brother to finalize the medical bills. The hospital stated they could collect the body only after paying the bills. After completing the payment, the family returns only to find the body missing. The hospital authorities informed us that the body was at the mortuary. Upon arrival at the morgue, they refuse to hand over the body unless they come with a police officer.

The family stated that as per the Muslim tradition, they had to bury the deceased the day she died. However, her body was handed over only after the family almost caused a scandal. Following the “scandal” the hospital did not charge the family any bills.

Upon opening the victim’s body, the family discovered stitches on her stomach. They claimed that the body had no stitches before she was taken to the morgue. Rougayatou leaves behind a 2-year-old baby.
