Cameroon: Yaoundé man killed for urinating on someone’s land

Nfonbuwi Sylvester Banfila, a resident of the Yaoundé state of Cameroon, died on Monday, May 8, after a landowner caught him urinating on his property. The owner of the said land saw the deceased urinating on his property and did not like the behaviour.

According to some sources, the culprit cautioned the 33-year-old Sylvester Banfila not to urinate on his property. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in an argument. Afterwards, the culprit hit Sylvester with a stick. The injury that the landowner gave him resulted in the now-deceased victim becoming unconscious.

The locals of the Nkolmesseng neighbourhood took him to the hospital after the incident. However, the doctors at the hospital were not able to save him. The victim succumbed to his death as a result of massive internal bleeding. The police officials have started an investigation into the matter. Notably, the victim had left his house in the Bui division of the Northwest region, Yaoundé, on the morning of May 8 for a critical meeting. He was on his way to the meeting when he felt the urge to urinate.

He stopped in the Nkolmesseng neighbourhood to relieve himself, and a man approached him and said he was urinating on his land. The sources have notably suggested that he (the landlord) was unhappy about that. He had reportedly issued an earlier warning to the people stating that no one should urinate there.

The police uncovered during the investigation that both people exchanged heated words for a moment. Additionally, the sources have suggested that after the argument, the landlord used a stick to hit Sylvester. The incident made him fall almost unconscious. The injuries from the assault resulted in a death. He was the resident of the Northwest region, precisely from the Bui division. Sylvester Banfila leaves a wife and two children in his wake.
