Cameroon: Man wrongfully arrested for destruction, wife dies in child birth

The police officers in Foumbot, Cameroon recently arrested Foundikou Daouda for destroying the identification equipment at the police station. Days after the arrest, the wife of Daouda died in childbirth.

According to the Facebook page of Cameroon News Agency, the pregnant woman was urging the men of goodwill to help and support her in her predicament. She wanted to help and support her husband. The news sources made her death public on Saturday, November 5, 2022. The woman passed away, leaving her newborn, a girl in the world without any guardians.


The father of the newborn, Foundikou Daouda, is still detained in the Foumbot central prison in the West region, Cameroon.

The police authorities have identified the woman as Nicole. She had been working diligently to ensure that her husband, who the police had arrested in the first quarter of October, could be freed.

Nicole, the deceased, was receiving financial support from people of goodwill. According to a report, good samaritans were planning to meet Nicole’s husband shortly afterwards. They were attempting to assist the woman in securing her husband’s release. However, she succumbed to death shortly after her delivery.

She had a girl.

According to the Cameroon News Agency report, the (now deceased) wife of Foundikou Daouda claimed that the police had arrested him wrongfully. She reasoned that the man could not pay the bribe demanded by the police officers.

Allegedly, The police officers beat Foundikou Daouda severely for his inability to pay the bribe. According to Nicole, the identification was essential for their future baby’s birth certificate.


She had emphasized that she was heavily (9 months) pregnant and consequently depended on her husband for almost everything. Her husband’s absence in the final days of her pregnancy can be attributed to her stress, which allegedly caused the death of the Cameroonian woman. She was working very hard to sway public opinion in her husband’s favour so that the may release him.
