Cameroon: 23 year old Littoral man stabbed to death following heated fight

The coastal region in Cameroon has recorded a fatality after a heated fight among friends. The victim of the incident, Ivan Tchepnang, was a 23-year-old local youth of the Loum region in Littoral. He was popularly known as “Japonais Noir” among his peers. The friends of the 23-year-old boy summoned him to back them up during a fight. However, in the midst of the fight, the boy gets stabbed during the heated fight

Some of the local boys started a fight amongst one another. One of the parties was the victim’s friend. The friends had called the now-deceased victim Ivan Tchepnang to help them. The reports suggest that the phenomenon of “Retour”, which involves getting backup(friends) for a fight, is very common among youths, especially those in the French-speaking regions of Cameroon.

The victim, Ivan, got stabbed by the youngsters during a heated argument which soon turned into a full-fledged fight. The incident happened on the night of Saturday, April 29, 2023, at a snack bar known as “Tapis Rouge”. The snack bar is situated in the Loum neighbourhood of Littoral.

The youngsters informed the police of the victim’s death, after which they started the investigation. During the investigation, they spoke to several locals who witnessed the crime. As per the account that the sources have given to the police, he was sleeping at their home in the Ngodi 3 neighbourhood before the fight. At the time, his friends came and called him to back them up in a fight.

“He hurriedly followed his friends to the snack bar, not knowing it would be his last fight on earth”, a witness said.

Several social media users have expressed condolences on the death of the 23-year-old. They shared several messages saying rest in peace. Social media users have also expressed their condolences and remorse on the situation
