The government hospital of Kabul is struggling with the shortage of essential medicine, specialist personnel and equipment. The authorities at the hospital have also confirmed these issues and informed the media about the critical need for some pieces of machinery. The Deputy head of the Children’s Health Hospital, Mohammad Iqbal Sediqi, talked to the press about the issues.
According to the authorities, the hospitals need several pieces of equipment for diagnostic purposes, which are not available at the hospitals. These equipment include critical diagnostic equipment like MRI Machines. Unfortunately, the machinery is not currently available.
Further, the authorities also spoke about the hospital’s shortage of beds and qualified specialists. Such issues severely affect the healthcare facilities provided to the people in the capital city of Afghanistan. One of the doctors in the hospital informed the media that the hospital’s emergency section has only ten beds.
Accordingly, if people come to the Emergency Room, they do not get treatment. They explained that they could not attend to all the patients due to a shortage of supplies and a lack of beds. Talking about the issues they face while navigating healthcare, the doctor shared that they keep a patient in the emergency section for five days. After this, if their condition improves, the patients are then shifted to a different section of the hospital.
Notably, the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, which has been functional in the country for over two years, is making sincere efforts to close the gap in the medical facilities available to the general public. The Ministry of Public Health, under the leadership of the Taliban, are making efforts to develop the human and technical capabilities of the hospitals.
The Ministry is arranging several pieces of equipment for the various units of the hospitals. These include the machines for electroscope surgery, which were not available in government hospitals in the past.
