Dominican Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit highlighted some economy driven initiatives on initiatives that have been launched in January 2025, important for the overall development of the country while promoting agriculture, community enhancement and tourism.
Initiatives launched in January 2025
- Town Hall Meeting Series – This initiative was launched with an aim to enhance community engagement. The first session was held in Trafalgar where the officials and citizens discussed national development concerns.
- Dominica’s Minimum Wage – The government of Dominica launched this initiative to establish a Public – Private Sector Committee, aiming to provide policy recommendations with enhanced review of corporate income tax and minimum wage.
Contracts signed by the Dominican Government
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy signed a contract with Ace Engineering Ltd. on January 10th, 2025, to construct a Citrus Certification Facility in Londonderry to provide quality crops and advance the agriculture sector by importing citrus.
The Dominican government also signed a contract on January 6th, 2025, for the construction of the Kalingo Multipurpose Centre and Emergency Shelter to provide a safe shelter during disasters and will act as a platform to host cultural and social events.
Additionally, a contract for the renovation of the roof of the Arawak House of Culture was signed on January 7th, 2025, by the government to provide the country with a venue for artistic and cultural expression.
Some Other Initiatives
Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit participated in an Electoral Reform Consultation which was hosted by Dominica Business Forum. During the consultation, the government’s commitment towards a modernized electoral process was highlighted and emphasis on the importance of open dialogue in critical matters of Dominica was underscored.
Dominica Grammar School will open in June 2025, marking an important step in the education sector as it will benefit children, the future of the nation.
Moreover, $8 million was invested for the completion of Chatwell Feeder Road that would act as an important link for farmers, improving the market for agricultural products.
