With the arrival of an inaugural flight by United Airlines at the Douglas Charles Airport, Dominica has marked a significant boost in the aviation sector. To mark the beginning of this non-stop flight, the Dominican authorities hosted a grand ceremony on Feb 15, 2025 which was attended by several dignitaries, including Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit and Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton.
On arrival the plane was welcomed with air salutation and government officials personally received the visitors carrying little flags of Dominica.
A pre-boarding ceremony which had a performance by Dominican Bouyon singer, Asa Banton was also held before the flight’s departure in Newark.
Moreover, this inauguration was a special day for Peter Codrington, a Dominican pilot, who was in charge of the flight from New Jersey to Dominica. Codrington called it a big occasion for himself, his country, and for the carrier.
The carrier will offer once in a weekly flight on Saturdays to Dominica with the aircraft, Boeing 737-700, until the end of August and will begin again in October.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit calls it a source of encouragement
PM Roosevelt Skerrit thanked the American Carrier and said that it is a source of encouragement for them to work harder to achieve their development goals and aspirations. He added, “This is a day that all of us in Dominica should celebrate and welcome.”
Tourism Minister calls it a historic aviation achievement
Furthermore, Dominica’s Tourism Minister, Charles-Pemberton stated that the launch of the historic United Airlines flight from New Jersey to Dominica gave them an opportunity to grow even bigger. She further said that the flight is about transformation, breaking barriers, and unlocking new possibilities for tourism, business and personal travel.

PM Skerrit highlighted the opportunities that the arrival of United Airlines will bring to Dominica, including more job opportunities, and more foreign exchange that will help grow the overall economy.
The flight will also help connect the citizens and residents of Dominica with the rest of the world. The Airline will also lead to more visitors, boosting tourism, profiting hotels, taxi operators, and tour guides.
