The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Phillip J Pierre, is visiting the Bahamas to represent his country at the 44th Edition of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government. The meetings will take place over two weeks in Nassau, Bahamas, from February 15 to 17, 2023
Through these meetings, the CARICOM heads of state will come together to discuss various issues of concern for the region. The opening ceremony of the 44th Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government was scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
The heads of the CARICOM Member states will meet and interact with one another through closed plenary sessions. The said plenary sessions will be held on February 16, 2023 (Thursday) and February 17, 2023 (Friday) at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Baha Mar.
For the opening day of the 44th Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government, the attendants organized the 13th CARICOM Triennial Award for Women. These awards aim to laud the achievements of women and their role in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)
The 44th Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government will culminate in interactions between the heads of state. The Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Davis, will preside over the meeting.
Further, reports suggest that in the absence of Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hikaire will act until February 20, 2023. Further, the information also suggests that the Haiti crisis will form a major part of the discussions during the three-day conference.
During the meeting, the CARICOM heads of state will welcome a special guest to the Bahamas session, in the person of Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The Foreign Minister of the Bahamas, Fred Mitchell, believes that the 44th session of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government is crucial. Along the same lines, he noted that the collapse in the political systems of Haiti had caused the country a lot of harm. The member states of CARICOM are working assiduously to assist their newst member through the crisis.
