Roseau, Dominica: Melissa Poppone Skerrit, Minister of Housing, Land & Urban Development, was invited as a guest by principal Jillian Robinson of Orion Academy to speak to some beautiful, talented young ladies on the International Day of the Girl Child.
She remarked that it was an absolute pleasure to be invited as a surprise guest and appreciated Prinicipal Robinson for inviting her, providing her with the opportunity to share inspirational words and raise awareness of issues facing girls internationally.
The event took place at the Fort Young Hotel on Victoria Street, Roseau. The Housing Minister shared a glimpse of her visit through her official Facebook account, emphasizing that she shared some words of inspiration and encouraged them to pursue their goals, dreams and aspirations.
Minister Melissa Skerrit expressed that she was overjoyed to be in the presence of these young ladies and tireless educators. Numerous teachers from Orion Academy also attended the event and shared beautiful thoughts and beliefs with everyone.
The Housing Minister of Dominica provided everyone with a small treat bag, sharing some of her favourite things as tokens of appreciation to celebrate the day.
While leaving, Minister Melissa Skerrit thanked Principal Jillian Robinson for inviting her and appreciated her efforts in encouraging girls and inspiring them to be well-educated, self-depended and promoting gender equality.
Housing Minister Skerrit also shared a glimpse of her visit to Pt Savanne Primary School to celebrate the International Day of the Girl through her social media account.
During her visit to Pt Savanne Primary School, Minister Skerrit met with the young girls and motivated them to pursue education, be kind to others, and engage in good deeds for the betterment of the country.
Minister Melissa Skerrit enjoyed the day sharing gifts with the girls at Pt Savanne Primary School. She commented that joining these intelligent and remarkable young princesses at Pt Savanne Primary School was an absolute delight to celebrate the International Day of the Girl.
She encouraged the girls by mentioning them as future police officers, nurses, doctors, teachers and lawyers.
During her motivational speech, housing minister Melissa said, “I had the pleasure of meeting two prospective prime ministers, along with several future police officers, nurses, doctors, teachers and lawyers today”.
