Nigeria: Senator, Barau I Jibrin to attend G20 in India

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, alongside the speaker of house representatives, Tajudeen Abbas reached India for the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speaker’s Summit.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, alongside the speaker of house representatives, Tajudeen Abbas reached India for the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speaker’s Summit. The officials were received at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi by the Nigerian high commissioner to India, Ambassador Ahmed Sule.

The P20 summit is going to be held on the 13th and 14th of October 2023 at the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Dehli, which is newly constructed. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the summit on Friday, 13th October 2023.

The officials will attend the summit alongside parliamentarians from 30 countries, including members of the G-20. 

This summit will strengthen the relationship between both countries, and the bilateral bond between both countries will be beneficial. The previous deals, like infrastructure and agriculture-related deals, are already in progress, and with this conference, the chances of trade will increase in both countries.

The major aim of the event 

The event’s main focus is to bring a parliamentary dimension to global governance, build political support for international commitments, raise awareness and ensure that these are effectively translated into national realities. 

The Lok sabha speaker of India, Om Birla, also informed that a four-level session will be organised during this summit, which will focus on Transformation in People’s Lives through Public Digital Platforms, Women-led development, Accelerating SDGs, and Sustainable Energy Transition.

The G20, or Group of 20, is an intergovernmental forum formed in 1999. The members of G20 consist of 19 sovereign countries along with the European Union and African Union. G20 welcomed the African Union as its newest member in the 2023 summit.
