The Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire, has taken to his social media account to share an glowing update regarding a storytellers training programme. The programme aimed to enhance experiences in our local communities. Hilaire commended the initiative through a facebook post that featured some glimpses of the workshop. The first phase of the said training programme took place between January 25 to February 1, 2023.
As per the update shared by Minister of Creative Economy Ernest Hilaire, he met Peter Chen and the Taiwan International Cooperation Development Fund (ICDF) as they concluded a training program for Storytellers to enhance experiences in our local communities. Following the conclusion of the programme, Taiwan International Cooperation Development Fund (ICDF) presented their findings and observations to the staff of the Ministry of Creative Economy.
The workshop aimed to teach the participants about the art and techniques of storytelling so that they could tell their own stories and the stories of their community in a convincing and engaging manner.
Deputy Prime Minister Hilaire further shared that the ICDF along with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Industries and other community stakeholders of the various communities in Saint Lucia were responsible for putting together the program for the storytellers in the various communities. The embassy of Taiwan implemented the programme in a two-phased approach with phase 1 of the workshop running from January 25th to February 1st.
The “Community-based Story Collection Training Workshop” program aimed to teach the training attendants to ‘Tell the Story of Your Community’. This initiative will further allow everyone to share their personal experiences.
According to the update shared by the Ministery of Tourism, which was one of the direct stakeholders in the training service, the storytelling training initiative adopted a Community-based Story Collection Model. Through this programme, the participants will learn the art of delivering information about their community’s culture, heritage and natural phenomenon through storytelling.
Finally, Minister Ernest Hilaire noted that the first phase concluded on February 1, 2023. The Phase 2 of the initiative will commence in May 2023.
