Pakistan: 2023 Census reveals population rise by 49 Million

The initial result of the seventh national population census has revealed that the population of Pakistan has recorded a new landmark. This is the first digital consensus of Pakistan. According to the statistics, the population of the country has reached 249,566,743. The chief census commissioner and the chief statistician in the Pakistan bureau of statistics Naeemuz Zafar made these remarks during a press conference. 

The Consensus Commissioner of the country informed the media that Punjab is the most populous province. According to the statistics published by the PBS, the population of the province is 127.4 Million. Meanwhile, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa register the population of 57.93 Million and 39.823 Million respectively. Finally, the population of the national capital, Islamabad is currently standing at 2.35 Million. 

The authorities have claimed that the population of Pakistan has increased by 49 Million since the last consensus. According to several reports on the country’s economic situation, Pakistan is dealing with a crisis. In the midst of this, the first-ever digital consensus has led to a significant cause of concern for the people. The authorities have stated that the cost for the census will be over Rs 34 Billion. 

They added that they will register the request that they use the data that authorities get out of the consensus for the elections. The chief census commissioner has stated that they have addressed the concerns and complaints that they have received. These include the complaints shared by the political parties. The consensus was completed by Monday, May 22. The prime Minister has given the directions, accordingly, the process for verification will also conclude by Tuesday, May 30. The government will also receive the data of any non coverage 

The registered increase in the population of the country is also a cause of concern for the dwindling economy of the country. Meanwhile, the people will see the adverse effects as the economy of Pakistan is currently caught in a predicament. They are facing high levels of inflation, reduced Manufacturing Sector Index and high prices.
