India: Dalai Lama gets support from Tibetan, Himalyan Buddhists

The Dalai Lama was surrounded by controversy after a video of him making an objectionable remark went viral. The Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, has apologized for his offensive comments. In a recent development, several Himalayan and Tibetan Buddhist Associations members came together for a peace rally. The associations hosted the peace rally on Saturday, April 22, 2023. 

Further, The event aimed to convey the solidarity of the Himalayan and Tibetan Buddhist Associations with the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. The Following Buddhist Association participated in the peace rally,

  • Lahaul-Spiti Students Welfare Association Shimla, 
  • Kinnaur Students Welfare Association Shimla, 
  • Regional Tibetan Women Association 
  • Shimla Indo Tibetan Friendship Society Shimla, 
  • Bharat Tibet Samanvay Sangh Shimla, 
  • Buddha Sewa Sangh Shimla, 
  • Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Shimla.

The associations have also claimed that the negative publicity that the DALAI lama is receiving results from China’s efforts to tarnish the image of the spiritual leader. The members of the associations carried out their peace rally by Holding placards, banners, posters and Tibetan National flags. 

Several Buddhist representatives, including children and youth associated with the Buddhist organization, raised slogans, chanted Buddhist mantras and offered long-life wishes for Dalai Lama during the staging of the rally. The official media sources have revealed that the Buddhist organizations have expressed their doubt about the video’s authenticity. 

The members of several Buddhist associations have claimed that the video that originated in the media on February 28 is fake. They have further argued that the Dalai Lama made no objectionable or sexist remarks. According to them, if this were true, the boy or the family would object to the Tibetan Spiritual leader. No comments or reports of objection have come to light so far. 

Accordingly, the people have urged the world buddhist communities to show solidarity with the spiritual leader of Tibet against the untoward allegations.
