Kenya: CS Ababu Namwamba meets with UNDP Kenya Delegation

Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth affairs, sports and arts held discussions with the UNDP Kenya delegation on Monday, January 9, 2023. UNDP Resident representative led the delegation to Kenya Anthony Ngororano. Department Representatives Mandisa Mashologu & Lilian Njoro accompanied him to the meeting.

Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth affairs, sports and arts held discussions with the UNDP Kenya delegation on Monday, January 9, 2023. UNDP Resident representative led the delegation to Kenya Anthony Ngororano. Department Representatives Mandisa Mashologu & Lilian Njoro accompanied him to the meeting. Ngororano sought to build partnerships in implementing the Ministry’s sports, arts, & creatives agenda.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretaries Jonathan Mueke and Ismail Maalim were with Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba during the meeting. Additionally, executives from the youth and sports departments were present at the discussions.

During the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Namwamba reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to build partnerships with all stakeholders. He committed towards the advancement of sports, arts and creatives in Kenya.

Cabinet Secretary Ababu called on the delegation to extend their support in resource mobilization. Additionally, he urged them to bring on board other like-minded partners to help actualize Kenya’s sports, arts and creative plan.

“We plan to monetize the arts, sports, and creatives to ensure that we put money in the pockets of our artists and athletes. Ababu Namwamba further said that the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and The arts in the government of Kenya can achieve this plan through collaborations with stakeholders such as yourselves and tapping into your robust networks towards elevating our artists and athletes to international standards.”

Youth Affairs Permanent Secretary Capt Ismail maalim repeated the Cabinet Secretary’s commitment. He called on the delegation to continue supporting the country’s youth agenda and more so for the upcoming Youth Connect Africa Summit to be held in Nairobi later this year.

Reportedly, UNDP Kenya has demonstrated a willingness to support Kenya’s youth agenda. Under this agenda, the UNDP partnered with us in the just concluded Kenya Innovation Week. As such, we encourage you to continue extending this support, especially for the forthcoming Africa Connect summit,” he said.
