Kashim Shettima, the Vice Presidential candidate of the APC (All Progressive Congress) party, has been petitioned by the Center for Reform and Public Advocacy, a civil society group, with the latter asking for his arrest and prosecution over a reported double nomination for the 2023 elections in Nigeria.

Shettima’s choice by Bola Tinubu, APC presidential flag bearer, has lured condemnation from many who persist in voicing their discontent over the Muslim-Muslim ticket assumed by the present ruling party.

It is being reported that Shettima was nominated two times by the APC party for two different constituencies at the same time in a horrendous breach of the Electoral Act 2022.

The petition stated that he signed both the INEC form number EC9 on assurance as the APC candidate for the Borno Central Senatorial District of Borno State for the 2023 general elections and meanwhile also signed another INEC form EC9 as the Vice Presidential candidate of the APC, an action known to have contravened the Nigerian law.

As per the petition, the signing of both the nomination forms for various constituencies is marked as a breach of sections 115(d) and (k) of the Electoral Act 2022 and draws two years imprisonment by a court upon a conviction.

The group stated that Shettima must be caught and tried as prescribed under the law.

“That the All Progressives Congress, APC, in keeping with section 29 of the Electoral Act, 2022, presented the name of Senator Kashim Shetima to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its contender for Borno Central Senatorial District of Borno State for the 2023 general election.”

Furthermore, that Senator Kashim Shetima marked the INEC EC9 form on oath, which is his nomination form as the nominee of the APC for Borno Central Senatorial District of Borno State for the 2023 general election.
