The brutal attack was stated to have took place on Wednesday night when gunmen, locally known as bandits, invaded the community and rustled the livestock.

As per the sources, a few residents have also been kidnapped during the attack.

A resident of the Duma village, identified as Garba Mailambu, said that the bandits came on their motorcycles and started firing sporadically, further adding that some residents who were trying to escape drowned themselves as they dived into a nearby river.

Another resident of the same area stated that the bandits forced the kidnapped individuals, which were mostly young men, to lead the rustled livestock out of the region.

Other than this, the gunmen also allegedly asked for large quantities of fuel (petrol) as ransom to release the kidnapped people.

On Friday, July 29, the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, paid a visit to the community who went through such a brutal attack.

Tambuwal, who led a team of security officials and several other government officials, took part in Juma’at prayers in the community while special prayers were being offered for the serenity of the souls of the victims of the attack.

Further investigations are going on to find the suspects and make them pay for their deeds.

Nigeria has been witnessing several attacks by the gunmen, who are locally known as bandits, for many years, and the government has failed to do so despite many efforts to stop such brutality.
