Sanjukta Dutta brings Assamese Culture in spotlight at Cannes

The models chose to dress in the creation of Assam based designer, Sanjukta Dutta. The models gave Dutta the opportunity to showcase not only her talent, but also bring a part of India to international spotlight.

Ingrida Ilgin and Mirka Howard, international models of repute and prestige recently donned the Assamese paat mekhela chador and the Assamese paat gown on red carpet of Cannes Film Festival 2023. The models chose to dress in the creation of Assam based designer, Sanjukta Dutta. The models gave Dutta the opportunity to showcase not only her talent, but also bring a part of India to international spotlight. The designer, Sanjukta expressed her delight at bringing a part of heritage to the international stage through her work. 

After the conclusion of the 2023 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, she took to her social media to express her delight. The international models walked the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival in the handmade ensemble of Sanjukta Dutta. The model, Ingrida Ilegin has been choosing the designer for the last three years in a row. Ilengin has been working in the modeling industry for the last fifteen years.

She has received several international accolades in the career modeling. She has won the title of “Top Model United Kingdom Winner” and “Miss Film Festival International” For the Cannes Film Festival. Sanjukta Dutta dressed Ingrida Ilegin into a handmade Mulberry silk green gown. Meanwhile, the top Model of the USA, Mirka Howard was dressed in a black Mekhela Chador created by Sanjukta Dutta.

Adding to the success of Sanjukta on the international platform, she also featured her designs in the Paris Fashion Week. Accordingly, Experts believe that Sanjukta is playing a crucial role in the development of the craft. She has worked with the rural population of the country to empower them. Additionally she has made efforts to bring the age-old art of Assamese handloom to forefront. 

Sanjukta shared the images of her creations on her social media account. She shared that she feels honored to play a small part in bringing Assam handloom to the global podium. She shared that she is making several efforts to bring her home craft to the forefront.
