Bayelsa: Gov Douye Diri appreciates Bayelsa for their support at father’s burial

Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa state, recently extended his profound appreciation of the people of Bayelsa. The Governor made these remarks for the Bayelsans and the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area for their show of love, support, and solidarity

Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa state, recently extended his profound appreciation of the people of Bayelsa. The Governor made these remarks for the Bayelsans and the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area for their show of love, support, and solidarity. The Governor spoke on the Day-2 of the burial ceremony of his late father, Pa Abraham Diri, in Sampou.

He also appreciated the people of Bayelsa for extending their support and love after his father’s death. The Burial ceremony started on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. The Governor of Bayelsa hosted the event honouring his father’s memory. Accordingly, the burial ceremony saw several events to celebrate the life and legacy of Pa Abraham Diri.

Reports also suggest that day Two of the ceremony was tagged “Kolga Day”. The day consisted of activities like Warboat Regalia, a wrestling contest, and Ijaw traditional music. On the first day of the ceremony, Former President Goodluck Jonathan made an appearance to celebrate the remarkable life of Governor Diri’s father.

In line with this, Governor Douye Diri addressed the people of Bayelsa on the second day of the burial ceremony. “My father’s death has become a celebration, and you have supported me with food for the burial. Further, he noted, I thank the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma for the show of support and solidarity”, Governor Diri said.

Accordingly, On day one of the event, Acting Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Retired Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah, former Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, former Ambassador to the Scandinavian countries, Ambassador Boladei Igali, former Managing Director, NDDC, Mr Timi Alaibe, and other distinguished guests graced the service of songs.

Meanwhile, The wife of Governor Diri, Dr.(Mrs.) Gloria Diri, former Managing Director, NDDC, Chief Timi Alaibe, Fred Agbedi, and other top government functionaries attended the second day of the burial ceremony. Pa AJM Diri was a retired Primary School headmaster. He passed away in February at the age of 88
