Dominica: Roosevelt Skerrit leads media tour to Intl Airport site in Wesley

The Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit recently took the members of the media fraternity on a tour of the Construction site of the country's first International Airport. The Prime Minister had promised the members of the media the tour.

During the excursion, Prime Minister Skerrit spoke to the media extensively and gave an in-depth update about the construction of the International Airport.

Prime Minister Skerrit shared that the international airport project is significantly important for the developmental avenues of the Commonwealth of Dominica. Sharing the update about the development of the project. He shared that the project has yet to start in terms of the construction of the Airport. He shared that the media tour is for the facility of the locations for the concrete batching plant.

He asserted that the people constructing the Airport would need serious metric tons of concrete daily. According to the Prime Minister, they need the concretes on a 24-hour basis. Thus, Dr Skerrit guided the media on the location of the concrete plant in the area. He also added that the government of Dominica has invested in constructing offices for the contractors. They have also built residences for the workers they are bringing in to assist with making the Airport.

Regarding the significance of the initiative, Prime Minister Skerrit shared that we have spoken about it for the last 55 to 60 years. According to him, the International Airport had been a dream and aspiration for every right-thinking Dominican who understands development. He believes this initiative was important to increase job opportunities and grow the economy. This is especially true in a postcolonial economy.

He observed that several Caribbean nations were very lucky they inherited international airports during the World War. This is because the U.S. was using their countries as bases for refuelling. The only development these countries had to do was extend the runway, maybe build a new terminal building Etc.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit asserted that Dominica was not as fortunate. They have to do the work on their own. He said that he was grateful for the opportunity. At the same time, he asserted that they were very optimistic about the project.
