Bayelsa: Gov Diri visits his deputy’s hometown for New Year visit

Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, visited the Ofoni Community on December 5, 2023. The Ofoni Community is the country home of the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. Governor Douye Diri is in the community to felicitate with him and the people.

The Governor of Bayelsa State is on a new year’s visit to the various officials, and the people of the Bayelsa State Governor Diri stated that the former Governor of Bayelsa, Senator Seriake Dickson, initiated the visit. The present Governor told the people that he was happy with the friendliness between him and Senator Ewhrudjakpo.


“For me, it couldn’t have been better because we have seen situations where governors and deputy Governors are at loggerheads, but the story in Bayelsa State is different. According to the Governor, the two have accommodated ourselves and caught the State’s interest as number one, which will have no end.

Dissipating the rumours that are doing rounds in the Bayelsa political scenario, Governor of the State Douye Diri stated, ” My deputy is no spare tire but has been a resourceful one. We have a great relationship. We are very happy with him.

Further, the Governor of Bayelsa state revealed in his address that This is a New Year friendly and brotherly visit. He clarified that this visit was not just for a sitting Deputy Governor.

He reasoned that when we dwell in unity, that is where our strength is and how we grow and develop as a state. We should not, in any way, disunite ourselves.”

During his visit to his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the people of the Ofoni community received the Governor. They treated him to the rich culture of the Ofoni people. Members of the State Assembly, Executive Council members, and other top government functionaries also attended the event along with the state governor.
