PM Drew meets CWI official, ensure facilities for successful tournament

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and Sports Minister Samal Duggins engaged in talks with the President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Kishore Shallow, on Wednesday.

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew engaged in talks with the President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Kishore Shallow, on Wednesday. He was accompanied by the Minister of Sports- Samal Duggins. 

President of CWI, Shallow, arrived in the island nation to host the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup. The tournament takes place at Warner Park, the Conaree Cricket Centre, and St Paul’s Sports Complex.

The matches commenced on March 4, and they will be played till March 25, 2024. Apart from this, the twin-island nation will also host the T20 Blaze tournament, which will be conducted from March 17 to 25. 

The leader of St Kitts and Nevis took to his official social media handle (Facebook) to share glimpses of their meeting with the President of CWI. 

“Minister of Sports, Hon. Samal Duggins, and I engaged with the President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Dr. Kishore Shallow, in a brief meeting today. 

Dr. Shallow is here as St. Kitts and Nevis is currently hosting the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup at Warner Park, the Conaree Cricket Centre, and St. Paul’s Sports Complex from 4 to March 25 and the T20 Blaze regional tournaments at Warner Park from 17 to March 25”, wrote PM Drew.

Further, Prime Minister Drew, along with Minister Duggins, visited the Cricket Stadium to enjoy the matches that were being played there.

They both had a discussion with a number of cricketing officials, such as West Indies lead women’s selector Ann Browne- John and President of the St Kitts Cricket Association- Dennis Philip.

The participating teams in the tournaments are as follows, 

– Trinidad and Tobago

– Guyana

– Jamaica

– Leeward

– Windward Islands

– Barbados 

As St Kitts and Nevis is hosting such a big tournament, it shows the advancement of their sports sector through various infrastructural developments. The sporting complex offers a number of facilities and accommodations to the players and fosters the skills of the young athletes. 

Minister Duggins expressed his commitment to ensure the availability of the best environment and facilities for all the views.
