PM Terrance Drew discusses sustainable agriculture goals with farmer Armstrong

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Terrance Drew visited Armstrong- a local farmer in the country, on Sunday. He discussed his aim to fulfil the sustainable agricultural agenda by 2025, for which the food imports will be cut by 25 per cent.

It is to be noted that he took to his official social media handle (Facebook) to laud the untiring hard work of the farmers, who are supporting the government in achieving this goal. 

 

“I took time out to visit Mr. Armstrong, a leading farmer here in our Federation. We aim to fulfil the 25 by 25 agenda, where we want to cut food imports by 25% by 2025.

 Our farmers are instrumental in achieving this goal. Let’s work to strengthen our collaboration even more”, added PM Terrance Drew.

Noting this, the Department of Agriculture has invited all the crop farmers to 25 by 25 crop commodities meetings, which are scheduled to be held on February 8 in the Large Conference Room at the Department of Agriculture in St Kitts and Nevis. 

 

Schedule of the meetings

 

The series of meetings will focus on the selected 25 by 25 crop commodities. Moreover, sweet pepper and tomato planters are asked to attend the meeting on Wednesday. 

 

The watermelon and cantaloupe planters are invited to attend the meeting on Thursday. 

Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources will host two days of Agriculture Open Day 2024 on April 25 and 26 at the Royal Basseterre Valley National Park. 

 

The event will be organised under the theme, “Securing our Future through Sustainable Agriculture by 2025 and Beyond.”

 

All the vendors and public members are invited to attend the event. Registration forms are available at various places such as the Department of Agriculture, La Guerite, Basseterre Public Market, Department of Marine Resources and the Ministry of Agriculture building 16 Port Zante at St Kitts. 

 

The authorities are committed to enhancing the agricultural sector, which will contribute towards the overall development of the country.
