St Kitts and Nevis: PM Terrance Drew addresses water crisis in country, seeks solution

The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, was recently featured in a roundtable interview with the media representatives of the country.

The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, was recently featured in a roundtable interview with the media representatives of the country. The roundtable interview occurred at the government house on Friday, July 21, 2023. Dr Drew interacted with the media during the July roundtable on several important topics. They touched on the administration’s future plans and current scenarios in the country.

Dr Drew spoke about one of the foremost issues of concern: the water situation. He expressed his commitment to dealing with the issue at the earliest. He also understands that having access to clean and safe water is critical to people’s health. Recently, St Kitts has been struggling with a water crisis due to insufficient water supply.

The country’s Prime Minister shared that they will be taking several initiatives to address the situation with the water supply. He further expanded upon these initiatives for the benefit of the country. The prime minister shared that they are creating a water storage tank system and building a new desalination plant.

The prime minister shared that in less than a year in the country’s administration, they have started drilling works in Cayon. The gesture solidifies the commitment to bring the country out of the water crisis. The federal cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis, led by Dr Terrance Drew, approved the desalination plant with two (2) million-gallon capacity.

The prime minister announced they are serious about getting the nation out of this crisis. The government is making significant efforts to support the communities going through the worst water shortage. The government seeks to fill them up for several days.

Prime Minister also stated they want to set up a water company that the country’s people can own. Further, the people will be able to access this company’s shares. The prime minister stated they could also benefit from this company and the dividend. He shared that they want to ensure that all the people benefit directly.
