Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State leaves no stone unturned in absorbing the best brains from all Nigeria Universities. They are doing this through automatic employment in the State workforce. According to the Governor, Being proactive, they say, is the bedrock for sustaining developmental strides and effective work culture.
Governor Obaseki is an Institution reformer and people’s Governor. His passion and zeal, amongst other commitments, aim to develop human potential in the State’s Civil/Public Service. He has equally extended such a gesture to the best-graduating students of Edo extraction from all Nigeria Universities.
The Governor intends to rebuild the system with the best human capacity resources. They are making the Edo public service the best workplace in the Country.
Thus, several best-graduating students drawn from different universities in Nigeria have benefited from the new policy of automatic employment in the Edo State Public Service workforce. One of the beneficiaries, Osaze Emmanuel Oronsaye, the best-graduating student in 2021 with First Class honours from the Department of Engineering at Edo State University, Uzairue, has been given an offer of employment as an Electrical Engineer, Grade Level 9, Step 2 into the public service.
Recently, he expressed gratitude to the State Government in Benin City during a courtesy visit by his parents to the Office of the Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa (Esq).
Similarly, the governor Approved automatic employment and a one-year law school scholarship award for Aminat Yusuf, the best-graduating student in Law from Lagos State University (LASU), who scored a 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
They have made plans for her one-year National Youth Corps Service (NYSC) programme in Edo State to familiarise her with the State where her expertise and dexterities are needed.
The Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, disclosed that 15 First Class graduates and the Best Graduating Students from the University of Benin (Uniben) and Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, have also benefited from the automatic employment gesture. They forwarded their names to the State Civil Service Commission for further action.
Meanwhile, they call on Vice Chancellors of Nigerian universities to “forward the names and particulars of First Class students, who are Edo indigenes, to the Edo State Government for the purpose.”
Edo State Government has created the best work environment and is the State paying the highest minimum wage in Nigeria. Governor Obaseki has raised the minimum wage for workers in the State to N40,000. These are obvious efforts towards engendering a competitive workforce in the State.
The Governor, having hinted earlier that his administration remained committed to improving the quality of human resources in the public service, has prioritised getting the best brains to work in the State.
In the same way, the State runs an e-governance system that has automated work processes. They also remodelled the work environment to fast-track a smart and ICT-driven work culture. Through this, the public service in Edo State can become attractive enough for the best talents from within and outside the State.
With these diverse pace-setting policies and reforms, among other citizen-oriented developmental initiatives, made so far in Edo State since the inception of Governor Obaseki’s led administration, Edo is undoubtedly on the right track towards restoring its past glory.
