Edo state takes steps to promote Arts Culture Entertainment sector

Edo State Government has enlisted the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism’s assistance to hold a stakeholder’s engagement in the arts and culture sector.

Edo State Government has enlisted the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism’s assistance to hold a stakeholder’s engagement in the arts and culture sector. The government has proved their commitment to developing these sectors through this initiative. Accordingly, the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism hosted a forum. 

The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism’s hosted the forum at the instance of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Iryn Omorogiuwa.

The Ministry’s Director of Policy Development and Interpretation, Ehichioya Okuodoh, spoke on behalf of the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary. The Permanent Secretary said the Ministry called the stakeholder’s forum. Meanwhile, The aim was to initiate a comprehensive Policy Framework on Arts and Cultural Entertainment in the State.

Meanwhile, Iryn Omorogiuwa told the stakeholders that the Ministry is drafting a cultural policy to regulate the sector and called on all stakeholders to contribute their ideas and suggestions towards a comprehensive policy document.

Additionally, the permanent secretary added that to accelerate the final drafting. In line with this, the team will hold more stakeholder engagements. The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism seeks to get their inputs. Accordingly, she emphasized that the policy would be homegrown and owned by all.

She reiterated the need for all persons and groups, to be involve themselves in leveraging Edo’s rich art and entertainment industry. The  people especially at the grassroots will play a crucial role to boost the economy.

Stakeholders who were present at the forum include:  

  • Willy Eghe Nova, State Coordinator of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria PMAN, 
  • Fred Aghedo, Chairman Society of Nigerian Artists, Edo State, 
  • Pastor Emmanuel Ubamadu from the Art Gallery Owners and Promoters and Adesunloye.

These stakehloders of the Arts, Culture and Tourism sectors called on the Ministry to ensure that their policies are properly implemented after completion. Meanwhile, The government of Edo state is working diligently to promote the interests of the various stakeholders of these sectors.
