Edo: Godwin Obaseki entrusts new commissioners to serve with value

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, urged the newly inaugurated Commissioners to exercise high performance culture and values in their service. He made this request  in order to consolidate on the ongoing reforms in the state.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, urged the newly inaugurated Commissioners to exercise high performance culture and values in their service. He made this request  in order to consolidate on the ongoing reforms in the state. These reforms aim to realize the Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) agenda.

The Governor gave this charge on Monday June 19, 2023, during the onboarding programme for the new Commissioners.  The onboarding programme was held under the theme, “Finishing Strong”. The government held the event at ICTA Conference Hall, JOOPSA, in Benin City.

The orientation exercises aim to align them with the programmes and reforms of the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration. Further, it will  equip them with the requisite knowledge and tools to facilitate the realization of the MEGA Agenda.

Godwin Obaseki stressed on the giant strides of his administration during the event. At the same time, he charged the Commissioners to rwmain focused and keep their eyes on the ball. He stated that a lot more needs to be done.

According to Obaseki, “The expectations are very high and you do not have to worry. What you just need to do is to make sure you stay on top of the issues. You understand what we are trying to do. So avoid a lot of small side talks that will not add value or benefit. Keep your eyes on the ball”.

Meanwhile he stressed on the need for effective communication, high-performance culture and values. He callwd them a prerequisite for effective service delivery in the state. Accordingly, Obaseki said: “In the process of the reforms, one key tool is communication. We have made significant progress. We need to communicate that progress”.

“The other point I want to talk about is; how do we ensure that we create a high-performance civil service? How to make sure that we are able to use the limited resources we have to do so much more? And it is not very difficult. It is just about accountability”.  

“The last is about our values. We cannot continue the old way. People must just understand that the new values call for diligent and effective service.”
