The former president of Malawi, Joyce Banda, was honoured with the WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE AWARD 2023 from the Pan African Learning & Growth Network

The former president of Malawi, Joyce Banda, was honoured with the WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE AWARD 2023 from the Pan African Learning & Growth Network and the Women in Management & Leadership. She shared the update through her official Facebook account on 1st march 2023.

Joyce Banda travelled to Nigeria to lead the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) Observation Mission to the Nigerian elections. She returned from there on 28 February 2023. She was happy to learn that while she was away, the Pan African Learning & Development Network and the Women in Management & Leadership presented her with the highest accolade, the WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE AWARD 2023.

She was told that Plan International Malawi helped organise this event. She expressed her gratitude to God for this honour and accepted it for all Malawian women who get up daily to work hard to provide for their families. Their JBFI/MWAI National Coordinator, Ms Leah Mhango, accepted the honour on her behalf.

Malawian politician Joyce Hilda Banda, president from 7 April 2012 to 31 May 2014, was born on 12 April 1950. With the unexpected death of President Bingu Mutharika, Banda assumed office. She is the People’s Party’s founder and leader. The party was founded in 2011.

From 2006 to 2009, she served as Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. She was the country’s vice president from May 2009 to April 2012. Before she was elected president of the Republic of Malawi, she served in several capacities as a member of parliament and as minister for gender and child welfare.

The Women of Substance Award is given to women who present as strong, forceful, independent role models. A lady of substance possesses strength, a favourable influence, and a sense of purpose. Who is dependable, has more going on than is first apparent, and has a wide range of interests inside and outside her house and family.

Women of substance (WoS) struggle with patience while balancing multiple responsibilities, such as being a mother, employee, friend, or wife. WoS is honoured to pay tribute to women with the strength and aptitude to handle numerous tasks calmly and succinctly. These women are Spartan in nature and possess control.
