Egypt: President El-Sisi visits India for republic day celebration

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade in Delhi. India has also invited Egypt to attend the G-20

India and Egypt are currently celebrating seventy-five (75) years of establishing a relationship with one another. In line with this celebration, the leadership of India has invited the President of Egypt, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade in Delhi. India has also invited Egypt, an invited country, to attend the G-20 conference under Indian Presidency.

This is the first time that a leader from India has invited Egypt’s president to attend the republic day parade in India. According to the spokesperson of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, this gesture of the Indian Government shows their faith in the country’s leadership, administration and people. The Government is also working towards strengthening cooperation between the two friendly countries.


India and Egypt are two of the most important emerging countries with vital roles regarding various regional and international issues. The trip of the Egyptian President to India for their republic day is extremely important as it marks the start of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, took to his Twitter account to welcome the guest of honour, president El-Sisi to India. The trip started on January 24. The trip will conclude one day after the republic day celebration on January 27. Prime Minister Modi expressed his joy at the arrival of Egypt’s head of state.

As per the reports from the Ministry of External Affairs, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will meet and interact with the Minister of External Affairs, Dr S Jaishankar, President of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following the arrival of the dignitary, President Murmu will host a state banquet in his honour. The state banquet will be hosted at the president’s official home, the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Meanwhile, on the same day, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will lay wreath at Rajghat. The Rajghat is the memorial of India’s celebrated politician and “father of the nation”, Mahatma Gandhi
