Tope Momoh, an 18-year-old resident of Ondo state in Nigeria, strangled his 52-year-old Mother, Stella Momoh, to death. The incident took place at Ikakumi Akoko in Ondo state. The 18-year-old committed the crime on September 6, 2022.
Police Prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin of the Ondo State, Nigeria, said that the police authorities of the Ikakumi Akoko region arrested the 18-year-old defendant on the charges of murder.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Akintimehin, the defendant committed the crime at midnight of September 6, more than a month ago.
Akintimehin told the court that Tope strangled his Mother to death in the middle of the night. The Mother had allegedly called the defendant a bastard.
The police prosecutor further informed the court that the defendant confessed he was responsible for his Mother’s death two weeks after she had been buried.
According to the police Prosecutor, The cause of the murder victim, Stella Momoh, remained unknown till her 18-year-old son confessed to committing the crime.
He asked the court to remand the defendant in a custodial centre.
In his confession, the defendant Tope said he was forced to tell his relatives that he strangled his Mother to death when she woke him up at midnight, raining curses on him and calling him a bastard repeatedly.”
The 18-year-old urged the court to show him mercy. He said he had no peace of mind since he strangled his Mother to death. Tope told the court that his restlessness forced him to confess to his relatives.
The court, however, disregarded his plea, and Chief Magistrate Musa Al-Yunnus ordered his remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.
Further, the chief magistrate adjourned the court till October 20. The court will deliver the final ruling on Thursday, October 20.
The 18-year-old culprit will have his sentence pronounced two weeks later, where the police authorities will shift him to serve his sentence.
