The Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed the death of six individuals due to a windstorm that destroyed several houses in Kafinhausa LGA of the state of Nigeria.
As per the sources, the incident took place on Tuesday, July 12.
In recent times, many communities in Nigeria have been impacted due to flooding and windstorms, which have destroyed several houses and left many persons displaced.
As per Yusuf Sani, head of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency, the tragedy has resulted in damage to the area of the Kafinhausa local government, such as the destruction of many houses.
The windstorm also damaged many properties in the Ushafa community in the Bwari area of Abuja in Nigeria.
The residents of the Kuta community in Niger state were left homeless after a massive windstorm that destroyed more than 60 houses and shops in the area.
Furthermore, it has also been reported that over 65 people in the community of Jigawa got injured during the windstorm, adding that they were immediately taken to the General Hospital in the Kafinhauga area of the state.
Six persons lost their lives, and 65 more who were injured severely due to the natural disaster have been hospitalised.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other agencies are in the area evaluating the level of damage.
The people who have been displaced due to the windstorm are currently taking shelter with relatives. NEMA is currently assessing the level of destruction in the area caused by the natural disaster and is also working to provide temporary shelter for the victims.
Muhammad Umar, the Information Officer in charge of the area, also commented and said that the Chairman of the council, Muhammad Saminu, had visited the families of the victims and also the victims who are on admission at General Hospital, Kafinhausa.
