Woman of Kashmir are making a quick mark in every sphere of life. They are increasingly taking more initiative and venturing into several new avenues. The women in Kashmir are employing innovative and dynamic processes to get ahead in their initiatives. The valley has seen an influx of women seeking to become more economically independent. Accordingly, several women are venturing into entrepreneurship. These women have come up with several notable and unique ideas.Â
Huzaifa Bazaz and Arifa Jan are the perfect example to expand upon the importance of women entrepreneurs within the valley. The first young entrepreneur, Huzifa Bazaz is an MBA Graduate. She founded an online shopping portal with her friends. She stated that her venture is not only a business for her. Huzaifa confessed that it means a lot to her. The business venture started when she was pursuing her under graduate degree. Her friends are some of her business partners.
She talked about the story of her becoming the entrepreneur that she is today. During her interaction with the media, Bazaz noted that she thought of creating the online portal when she was in 12th Standard. She had a lot of experience in the field. Initially, she got a good response from social media. However, at the beginning of the venture she faced some issues, which prompted her to team up with a friend.Â
She talked in depth about her venture and her journey, which started more than seven years ago. Meanwhile Arifa Jan has been working on reviving traditional Namda–a rug. The artistic piece is made of felted wool. According to her, the artwork was disappearing from Kashmir due to the lack of skilled manpower and low availability of raw materials. She is a commerce graduate has pursued her studies at the Craft Development Institute (CDI).
Her experience and education have helped her create a vision for her entrepreneur. During her education at the CDI, she got the opportunity to travel to several states across the nation on internships. She realized during her trips that the other states preserve their culture. It also prompted her to work towards doing the same for her culture.Â
