Saint Lucia: EAM Alva Baptiste travels to Antigua for ACS meetings

The Minister of External Affairs in the government of Saint Lucia, Alva Baptiste is travelling to Guatemala for a weeklong series of meetings of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS). He is travelling to the caribbean nation with a delegation of saint Lucia’s high level governemnt stakeholders. The meetings in question include a Summit of Heads of State.

Meanwhile, The Minister of External Affairs in the Saint Lucian government to the meetings which the government will host in Antigua, Guatemala on 8th May 2023. Accordingly, The delegation of Saint Lucia includes, Elma Gene Isaac, Ambassador to CARICOM, OECS and the Association of Caribbean States and Senior Foreign Service Officer at the Saint Lucia’s Ministry of External Affairs, Nancy Nicholas.


Additionally, At the VII ACS Cooperation Conference on Monday, May 8, 2023, Member States and Associate Members of the ACS, along with technical experts and development partners discussed such matters as climate change and disaster risk reduction, economic integration as a driver of sustainable tourism, transport and digitalisation, and South-South Cooperation.

Further, the attendants will engage in Critical exchanges concerned options for control and resilience building in respect of the Caribbean’s sandy shorelines, coral reef restoration, sargassum as an emergency for the Caribbean, low-carbon tourism, the development of a ferry network for the Greater Caribbean Region and the competitiveness and development of MSMEs.

During the meetings, they will highlight several projects which they have planned to execute or are currently underway. These include Sandy Shorelines, Geospatial Information System for the Greater Caribbean, Logistics Integration programme and Public-Private Partnerships and Maritime Transport.

The Delegation of Saint Lucia, led by Alva Baptiste travelled to Guatemala in Antiga for a series of meetings. Out of these meetings, ACS Business Forum takes place on May 9 and will be followed by meetings of the ACS Budget and Administrative Committee, the Ministerial Council on May 11, 2023 and the Summit of Heads of State and Government on May 12, 2023.
