Ambassador Timothy Nwachukwu, a prominent member of the Nigerian political fraternity, has taken to his social media account to commemorate International Earth Day. The Media Assistant to the Ambassador of Nigeria in Burundi also took the opportunity to expand upon the need for the conservation of the planet.
The world Celebrates Earth Day every year on April 22. The international community commemorates the day with several environment-themed events and contests. Several parts of Nigeria also hosted several competitions and debates to spread awareness about the significance of earth day.
Ambassador Nwachukwu also took the initiative for something similar. On World Earth Day, he urged the people to reflect on the consequences of their thoughtless actions in the present. He talked about the repercussions of these actions for future generations. Accordingly, he told them to imagine a world in the future where trees no longer exist.
Additionally, He urged them to look into a time when rivers and other primary water sources are polluted and no longer fit for consumption. The effects of climate change have likely sent high-magnitude of heat waves into the earth, making agricultural activities hard and the majority of the world submerged in flood.
He acknowledged that people would say that the situation is not likely to arise in their life. Many people would say that they would be gone when any adverse actions and reactions occur. However, Ambassador Timothy Nwachukwu urged the people to reflect about the consequences for the future generations. He urged them to ponder, what of your grandchildren and great-grandchildren?
The Ambassador asked them, do you want them to live in a difficult world you helped to destroy? He asserted that our actions in our environment today will determine the future of humanity. At the same time, he added that it is proper we take care of the earth today so it can protect our children tomorrow.
In this regard, he urged people to plant trees, recycle, and reuse plastic products. Dispose of your waste properly and not indiscriminately and where you can use renewable energy. He asserted that you can do these little things to improve the earth for the next generation.
