Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, Bhutan’s queen mother, is hosting the Drakul’s Literature Festival. She is a respected and renowned author in the country. Under the patronage of the queen mother, Bhutan will host the annual literature festival from August 4-August 6, 2023.
The three-day event will attract literary experts from across the globe. The event’s previous editions attracted prominent authors such as Ruskin Bond and Vikram Seth. Bhutanese author Aum Kunzang Choden is also one of the notable attendants of the event. Through this event, India and Bhutan can exchange ideas and creativity between two communities.
The queen mother of Bhutan, Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, understands the importance of exchanging ideas and cultural values. Accordingly, she sponsors the Literature festival annually. Notably, The queen’s mother is a celebrated and revered author in Bhutan. She has written poetry, essays and much more on topics relevant to the country. She has also sponsored and edited several books, poems and articles on these issues.
Talking about the other contributions of the Queen Mother, it is worth noting that she has been the Chief Patron of Bhutan’s Ministry of Agriculture since 1999. Her generous donations to the various areas of the country are apparent in her commitment to the upliftment of Bhutan. She has greenlit several developmental programmes in the country. She focused on the rural regions and established the Tarayana Foundation to benefit those communities.
Notably, the Drakul Literature Festival has emerged as the stage where writers and literary experts from India and Bhutan can come together. They get the chance to exchange ideas, creativity and artistic capabilities. Notably, the queen mother of Bhutan has a highly impressive oeuvre of books credited to her name.
Additionally, One of her most prominent literary works is Rainbows and Clouds. She wrote this book as a tribute to her father. It was the biography of her father, Yab Ugyen Dorji. Through the words of Queen Mother, her work gives insight into the life and times in the remote eastern Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan during the 21st century.
