Due to the protests being carried out by a few students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, on Monday, 16 May, the institution’s management has indefinitely postponed the second-semester examination for the 2021-2022 academic session.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Soladoye Adewole, disclosed that the protesting students were those who had declined to pay their tuition fees for the completion of their registration process.

“Many of them have not paid their fees due to which their registration is not completed, and the management has said these students will not be allowed to give the exam. So, they suddenly realised this on the day they were supposed to start their exams. Earlier, they were busy celebrating their Hall Week and other celebrations and forgot to pay tuition fee, which might have been given to them by their parents.”

“Since the students knew that the school administration would implement a ‘No Pay, No Examinations’, they used their own strategy to suspend the examinations scheduled for Monday. The examinations have been called off, but we are going to re-strategise. Anybody that does not pay or complete their registration is not a student of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, except they do the needful,” he further said.

It was found that some students of the students from the institution on Monday halted academic activities in the polytechnic, therefore, putting on hold the beginning of the school’s second-semester exams.

Some students who did not agree with the school’s spokesperson revealed that the problem they had was that some of them had given their tuition fees but were not able to print their course forms.

With this, they disclosed that they could not go forward with registration, while some who initiated their registration were yet to complete it because of multiple reasons.

Also, some of the students claimed that they were not prepared for exams because of social activities.

However, the students insisted the administration to conclude the examinations for the part-time students before the beginning of the examinations for the full-time students.
