Two gunmen were shot dead on Thursday, August 4, by a Police Inspector in the Aforukwu region of Orogwe in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State of Nigeria.
The gunmen were killed by police officers when they wickedly invaded the Inspector’s house.
The gunmen, locally known as the bandits, who came in around 2 am, climbed the perimeter wall fence in the compound in an attempt to invade his house.
While the bandits were trying to damage the iron burglary protector and front door to enter his flat, the Police Inspector, who placed himself professionally at a vantage position, engaged the gunmen in an aggressive gun duel.
CSP Michael Abattam, Imo Police spokesman, who confirmed the incident stated that one of them died on the spot while others fled in the surrounding bushed while being fatally injured.
Upon the arrival of the team of police officers, they searched the surrounding bushes, where they found a corpse, two locally made guns as well as an identity card at the location.
The recovered identity card was of one of the deceased bandits, Chukwuemzie Chukwu, who is a native of the Atta in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the Imo State and an electrician.
The two dead bodies have been evacuated and sent to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri.
An investigation has been launched in order to find the other members of these bandits and know their motive.
It is reported that the police officer who was attacked by these bandits has not sustained any injuries.
Crimes by local bandits are on the increase in all parts of Nigeria, and police have been trying their best to stop these people and exclude criminality from the country.
