17-year-old commits suicide over failing in final exams in Kwara

A 17-year-old student, Adegoke Adeyemi of Offa Grammar School, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State of Nigeria, has reportedly committed suicide after being asked to repeat a class in school as he failed.

As per the Police sources, Adeyemi was discovered hanging on a tree because of shame from his inability to acquire promotion from SS1 and SS2 at school.

While confirming the incident in a statement in Ilorin on Wednesday, August 3, Okasanmi Ajayi, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kwara Command, said the deceased was found hanging on a tree situated behind the Ariya garden hotel in the Offa region.

The student, who was later identified as Adegoke Adeyemi, male, aged 17, was a student of the Offa grammar school, who was thought to have hanged himself because of a result of his failure to pass in his final exams from SS1 to SS2, which required him to repeat the same class.

The information about his suicide was received by the Divisional Police Officer at Offa at around 3:45 pm on August 2, Tuesday, to the effect that a boy’s lifeless body was discovered hanging on a tree behind Ariya garden hotel in Offa. Upon getting the information, a team of police officers were immediately sent to the scene from the Divisional headquarters.

The dead body of the deceased student was put down from the tree behind Ariya Garden Hotel, Offa, by a team of police officers from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Offa, at around 3:34 hours on Tuesday.

The dead body of the student was then taken for autopsy to the Offa General Hospital while an investigation has been launched to dig deep into this incident.
