Ebonyi-based writer, self-proclaimed Political & Social Historian, Gender Scholar, Pragmatic Teacher, Researcher & Social Crusader, who goes by the name of Okpara Chidi Okpara took to his social media to express his fond views of the Ebonyi Governor.
The writer takes a walk down memory lane in the Facebook post. He looks at the year when Governor Favid Umahi came to the governorship of the state. He started the writeup addressed to Ebonyi Governor, stating:
In 2015 when the most pragmatic governor (David Umahi) of Ebonyi state took over the state’s leadership, Ebonyians noticed a burning desire to develop the area and the Ebonyians.
Okpara Chidi Okpara further wrote that as a leader with a good heart, Umahi realized that in life, “when you sow a seed in a human being, he will replicate it, but when you put him down, you are destroying and bringing such a person down”.
Talking about the governor’s tenure, Okpara stated that under his watch, thousands of youths, hawkers, widows, and beggars were empowered with 250,000. This amount enabled them to either trade or farm. Further, he revealed that Gov Umahi authorized more than 8,000 persons with 250,000 each. The beneficiaries comprised civil servants, market women and men for agricultural purposes.
Governor Umahi approved and released the sum of two billion Naira agricultural credit scheme in rice production to 20 farmers’ cooperative societies in Ebonyi state.
Gov. Umahi established a performance, projects and service delivery process that has lifted the state to a desirable level.
He also developed an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. The streamlining of the tax system to eliminate double taxation has enhanced the inflow of investments in the state.
Okpara Chidi Okpara believes that even though people may keep a blind eye to the uncommon strides of Gov. Umahi, the world will always use his name as a point of reference and standard after his administration.
