CWG 2022: Nigeria bags two more silver, one gold medal; ranks 8th with 13 medals

Nigeria won another silver medal with Ikechukwu Christian Obichukwu winning in the final of the men’s Para-Powerlifting (Heavyweight) event during the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 being held in Birmingham. 

With a body weight of 74.9kg and Rack (13), he had a combined total score of 133.6 points (190/197/-) to clinch a Silver medal.

On the other hand, Alice Folashade Oluwafemiayo made a record-breaking performance to achieve the women’s heavyweight gold medal on Para powerlifting day at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The 86 kilograms Paralympic champion Oluwafemiayo assured there was a success for Nigeria to celebrate, and she made the world record for her weight division in the category of women’s heavyweight final.

Oluwafemiayo had already got gold with lifts of 130kg and 150kg but did another sensational lift of 155 kilograms to score 123.4 points.

Meanwhile, Bose Patricia Omolayo came second in the same category and won the silver medal with a new Games record of 115.2kg.

With this, Nigeria stands at 8th position in the worldwide medal list of Commonwealth Games 2022 with a total of 13 medals; 5 Gold, 3 Silver and 5 Bronze.
