CWG 2022: Goodness wins Nigeria’s fourth Gold in Women’s Discus Throw

The 23-year-old Nigerian athlete Nwachukwu Goodness has achieved Nigeria's fourth gold medal during the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. She did it exceptionally by breaking the world record twice before achieving the top prize.

Nigeria’s sole competitor in the Women’s Discus Throw, F42-44/61-64 event, was way better than her competitors, setting new world records with her first two throws.

Earlier, Nwachukwu was the F42 World Record holder with her best mark of 33.35m, but on Thursday, she beat her previous record, and her first throw was 34.84m which she further improved upon with a throw of 36.56m.

While the Nigerian was not able to throw further in her following attempts, she got a huge round of applause from the audience present at the Alexander Stadium every time she took her to throw.

Earlier, it was also reported that two members of Team Nigeria during the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, Rafiatu Folashade Lawal and Adijat Adenike Olarinoye got special recognition for their record-breaking performance at the Games.

It is predicted that Nwachukwu will also be given special recognition before the end of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. On the other hand, before Nwachukwu’s gold medal feat, Nigeria also won a bronze medal in the event of Powerlifting via Nnamdi Innocent in the men’s lightweight category.

Para powerlifter Nnamdi Innocent earned a total score of 132.5 during the final of the Men’s Lightweight after around three attempts.

He finished behind Englishman Mark Swan, who won silver with 145.5 points.

Another Nigerian, Thomas Kure, placed fourth with the same number of points as Innocent.

Photos of Nwachukwu Goodness have been circulating on social media, with fans and Nigerians praising her for her commendable performance during the Commonwealth Games 2022 at the Women’s Discus Throw event, which left the whole world stunned.
