Kenya: CS Ababu Namwamba visits Bomet Stadium ahead of upgrades

The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, The Arts and Sports in the government of Kenya, Ababu Namwamba, undertook an inspection tour of the Bomet Stadium in Bomet County on March 7, 2023. The Cabinet Secretary has visited the facility ahead of a proposed upgrade of the facility. The Cabinet Secretary’s visit signifies the start of the preparations for the initiative. 

The upgrade forms an important part of the Ministry of youth affairs sports and the arts’ goal to upgrade the stadium facilities in Kenya to the standards of FIFA/CAF. The Ministry is taking up this project to take the stadiums to the standards so that they are ready for the government to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, who works for the ministry of youth affairs sports and the arts, in the government of Kenya announced that his Ministry would work with the Bomet County government to ensure that the authorities can renovate the stadium standards to a level that makes the country capable of hosting regional tournaments, in line with the Ministry’s master plan on stadia development.

The Cabinet Secretary Namwamba stressed the significance of standard sporting and creative arts facilities, saying that the Ministry was keen on developing composite facilities that catered for sports and the creative arts sector, in line with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and the arts, flagship #TalantaHela initiative.

In line with the initiative, Governor Barchok assured the Cabinet Secretary of the County’s commitment to partner with the Ministry to ensure that the authorities can come together and develop international standard sports and arts facilities in the County. Meanwhile, Commissioner Dr Ahmed Omar welcomed the move by the Ministry to renovate the stadium, saying that it will help minimize security incidences within the County by keeping the youth of the County engaged.
