Nigeria based Government organization, Land of Hope has shared their gratitude to the people who are supporting the NGO. Along with this, they shared the story of “Queen” who is one of the children that they rescued from a life of torture and neglect. The NGO rescued the young woman almost seven years ago. The community that she was living in accused her of being a witch. Moreover, the local villagers had tried to burn her alive.
Queen was very scared and sick when she came to Land of Hope after several treatments at the hospital. 70% of her body were burned and she was in so much pain. When we brought Queen to Land of Hope she was introvert and it was difficult for her to bond with the other children. According to the NGO, the behavior was due to her trauma.
But as most of you already know, at Land of Hope we have the best team in the world. The team is led by Nsidibe Orok our Director of Child Development.
Once Queen came under the wings of Orok and all our teachers, medical staff and social carers. Queen embarked on a tremendous personal development. Land of Hope shared that almost sevem years later, today Queen is very social. She has a voice and can stand up for herself and raise her opinions. The NGO shared that She loves to play football and will always have a big smile on her face.
During Queen’s recovery process doctors determined that Queen has a neuro-developmental disorder. This means that Queen is still in primary school. Despite Queen’s neuro-developmental disorder she loves to learn and to go to school. The scars on her body is proof that Queen is a survivor. I know today, working with children accused of witchcraft, that out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls.
