Nigeria-based NGO Land of Hope has shared the rescue story of two witch children they rescued almost three years ago. Through their stories, the Nigeria Based NGO seeks to educate the people of Nigeria about the problem of superstition prevalent in Nigeria. The NGO rescued Life 3 years ago and Possible two years ago.
They shared that they found both boys naked with bruises and torture wounds all over their bodies. “Possible” had broken his leg, and we thought he was dead at first sight. He was thrown into the bushes to die as if he were not human. Life was running in the middle of the street, naked among moving cars and severely malnourished.
The people at Land of Hope have followed the boys’ recovery journeys and watched them develop into healthy and happy young boys. Both Life and Possible suffer from mental disorders. This may have been why their communities accused them of being witches. One of the major causes of witchcraft accusations is mental health issues.
After the rescue of Life, he did not talk or interact with the children or staff. He was very scared and traumatized. After the recovery of Possible, we immediately took him to the hospital, where he was in a hospital for over 3 months. He had several operations on his leg and was in so much pain. Like Life, he also did not talk.
But as most of you know, both Life and Possible have completely changed. The boys are so healthy and happy today with all the love and care from the children and staff at Land of Hope.
When Land of Hope rescued Possible, Life had already been at Land of Hope for more than a year. It did not take long before the boys “found each other”. It was as if they understood one another without even speaking.
Today Possible and Life are inseparable. They play with each other from morning to evening, holding hands, laughing, and having so much fun.
They love to tease each other. I can sit all day and observe how they interact on a level only they understand. The communities of both boys left them to die on the street, accused of being witches. Today they are the most happiest because they have each other, best friends forever
