Year-End Surge Expected in Saint Lucia Tourism, says Ernest Hilaire

Hilaire said that despite the difficulties of many airlines experiencing equipment issues, this year will end stronger, in terms of travel numbers, than the previous year

Castries, Saint Lucia: Dr Ernest Hilaire, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Tourism, is making constant efforts to strengthen the airline industry of Saint Lucia.

To make the work more efficient, the minister has sought the help of international air carriers to develop Saint Lucia’s air travel infrastructure.

Hilaire said that despite the difficulties of many airlines experiencing equipment issues, this year will end stronger, in terms of travel numbers, than the previous year.

He said plans are being set to make travel more accessible to and from the island.

This will prove to be of massive convenience for tourists planning a trip to Saint Lucia in the upcoming holiday season and the summer of 2024.

The island had faced a drop in the number of visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, just like other tourist destinations globally.

The efforts being pushed by the minister are thus necessary to boost the country’s tourism sector again.

Hilaire said that plans for the forthcoming summer are already in progress to ensure that the hindrances faced this year don’t occur again in the busy season that’s coming in the near future.

The Minister said that the next six months will be very strong for the tourism sector of Saint Lucia.

In the Summer of 2024, Saint Lucia is hosting a number of events that include,

  • Jazz
  • World Cup Cricket
  • Carnival
  • Emancipation
  • CPL

Hilaire also mentioned that a few modifications are occurring with many airlines, including names like British Airways & American Airlines.

The entire effort is likely to have a positive impact on the tourism sector but could also prove to be beneficial for industries beyond tourism, such as hospitality, retail, and transportation.

It is to be noted that in the entire development effort, Saint Lucia is equally focused on maintaining the sustainability of tourism and reducing the ecological impact of commercial tourism on the country’s various natural gems.

This can be seen being reflected in the large number of ecological initiatives that the government is focusing on side by side.
