Nigerian author, ghostwriter, publisher and communications specialist Ella Obans shared her views about being unselfish. She took to her social media to observe that everyone is selfish by default. Accordingly, anyone would want to do what will profit them before considering anyone else. However, in life, we are made to serve others.

No matter how great you are, if your greatness in one way or the other doesn’t add up for the good of someone else’s living directly or indirectly, you’re only existing. She shared that she hears people say I am not a calling type. I am not the reading type or the commitment type. I am not the love type or not the giving-gift type or the reading type and not the selling type, to mention but a few.

Amid all these claims, we have failed to realize that those who give gifts had the option not to give them, yet they did. Those who love people could hoard it or give it to themselves only, but they give it to others regardless. They commit fear being betrayed or rejected, yet they commit regardless.

Those who read or even write had other recreational activities they could do, but they chose to read or write anyways. Those who called had other things to do with their time, yet they called. There were  sales that had the feeling that it won’t turn out well, but they pushed through to sell regardless.

Ella Obans asserted them to try the hypothesisFor every good thing you see anyone do, ask them. They had the choice to choose the opposite, but they went for the former.

Dear valued one, stop saying this is how you are because it’s the person you have chosen to be. You can achieve that change without anyone’s help if you change who you are. It’s your choice to do right or wrong at the right time.

The summary of all this is pointing at is that in life, you require discipline. Everyone has a default state, but what differentiates us from animals is the ability to think and weigh the motive and impact of our actions both now and in future.

I bet you’ll never feel like doing it; you must choose what is lovely, pure, of good virtue, true, honourable, right, excellent and praiseworthy. Remember, life will always give you what you put out. Whatever a man sows, so shall he reap; sow the right seed today. Stop living by default, make efforts to live an impactful life, and live your life intentionally.
