St Kitts and Nevis organized the annual ‘Restaurant Week’ after a break of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which started on July 14 and will end on Sunday, July 24. The small island nation is celebrating its rich culture, haute cuisine and local ingredients with the country’s best chefs.
The Restaurant week event features retaurants which offer discounted or fixed-price menus so that visitors can try out different types of food dishes that are usually out of their price range.
Middle and upper-range establishments join this event every year, but the event is open for every restaurant owner. The basic concept of restaurant week is that local establishments partner up with local tourist organizations or chambers of commerce to promote their special lunch and dinner for over a week.
The twin-island nation came back with this event which is also featuring the farmers of the country. During each activity and competition of Restaurant Week, the restaurants will show the importance of the farmers among the tourists.
They will showcase the twin island’s dynamic cultural and appealing cuisine with exquisite events.
Among the events planned for this year’s event is the Tasting Showcase, which took place both in St Kitts and Nevis, where restaurants serve dishes made from this year’s theme item, Sweet Potato.
The St Kitts tasting showcase took place on July 10, while the Nevis’s event took place on July 16. Other than this, a bartender/mixologist competition was also held in which participants completed the winning cocktail “The Eye-Opener”, which featured one of the Kitts rums, and it took place on July 14.
Another key event on the calendar will be Grill Fest on July 23, which “pays tribute to the grill masters as they vie for the title of Best Grill Master in three categories: poultry, pork and seafood”. Every participating restaurant will offer savoury dishes and beverages to the attendees as they will witness the serving up of the tasty dishes featuring the sweet potato.
Participating restaurants have designed one-off menus, each incorporating the theme ingredient. More than 50 restaurants are be participating in the event to give local experiences through culinary, entertainment and artisans.
One of the participating restaurants is also Serendipity, a cosy restaurant, lounge, and bar situated in the historic Fortlands, a short walk from downtown Basseterre. Both Serendipity’s extensive lunch and dinner menus offering a wide variety of local and international cuisine.
Another restaurant, Four Seasons Resort Nevis is participating in St Kitts and Nevis Restaurant Week and its three-course menu showcases the talent of the Four Seasons culinary team. Natalia Ristorante resorts also expressed pleasure in announcing their participation in this annual tradition of dining out and celebrating local ingredients. Their chefs have curated a special three-course menu featuring simple Italian classics and sweet potato.
Besides this, the event is also featuring restaurants such as Arther’s, Sunset Cafe, Park Hyatt and over fifty restaurants.
St Kitts and Nevis have built an excellent reputation for cuisine in recent years. Chefs on the islands guard local recipes zealously, but as well as Creole and West Indian fare, they also specialize in Chinese, Western and Indian dishes.
