The smallest island in the Western Hemisphere, St Kitts and Nevis is becoming a fascinating location to visit in the Caribbean region. The month of July gives a more considerable reason to travel to the beautiful island of Nevis as it will be celebrating the ‘Mango Festival’ from July 1. The twin-island nation is known as the ‘Mango Capital in the Caribbean’ as mangoes are the most loved fruit in Nevis.
The Mango Festival is celebrated annually in the Nevis for an entire week, with significant events happening from July 1 to July 3, 2022, onwards.
This year the Mango Festival will be launched officially on July 1 at Cades Bay Fruit Orchard from 1 pm onwards. On July 2, from 12 pm onwards, the visitors will see an easy-breezy mango Saturday in Nevis. On the last day, i.e. July 3, the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis will enjoy the love of mangoes at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park, which will include a Chef’s Cooking Competition (St Kitts and Nevis), a Food Demonstration, Mango Wellness Zone and Mango 101 Zone.
There will also be different contests where the audience will engage themselves, like mango eating and a cocktail competition. Furthermore, there will also be a culinary challenge that will bring the top chefs of the island to prepare mango-focus menus. Indeed, it will be all about the mangoes.
Devon Liburd, the Nevis Tourism Authority’s interim CEO, proudly stated, “Mangoes are an integral part of the Nevisian cuisine as many different species are grown here. Each variety is known for its unique look, taste and texture. Every Nevisian believes the Mango Festival is the perfect way to experience a Caribbean vacation with a distinctively Nevisian flavour.”
The love for this fruit might be proved by every Nevisian who has at least a mango tree in their backyard. Every summer, Nevis literally witnesses the rain of mangoes and there are over forty-four different kinds available in Nevis with Amory Polly, Julie and Long being the most popular among locals as well as travellers.
