Terrorists attacked Zamfara Community, killing Policeman and abducting 13 residents

Terrorists attacked the quiet community of Ruwan Doruwa in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday, leaving devastation in their wake

Ruwan Doruwa, Nigeria, November 19, 2023: Terrorists attacked the quiet community of Ruwan Doruwa in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday, leaving devastation in their wake.

The assailants, whose motives appear to include abduction for ransom, engaged in a ruthless assault that lasted for more than two hours, resulting in the tragic death of a mobile policeman attached to the Maru police division.

According to eyewitnesses and residents, the terror unfolded around 1:00 a.m. when the terrorists descended upon the town, encircling it before unleashing a barrage of gunfire.

The chaos ensued as some of the militants entered the town, indiscriminately firing upon the unsuspecting residents. The fallen policeman, who valiantly tried to defend the community, succumbed to the attackers’ bullets, marking a grim toll on the local law enforcement.

A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, provided chilling details of the assault. “The terrorists surrounded the town and started shooting. Some of them entered the town and started shooting.

That was when the policeman was shot. Other people were also shot, but he was the only one who died,” the leader disclosed.

The tragic incident did not end with the loss of the brave officer’s life. The terrorists, apparently driven by a sinister motive, abducted 13 residents during the onslaught. The victims comprised six women, five men, and two children.

It is believed that the assailants orchestrated the abductions with the intention of demanding a ransom for the release of the captives, a grim tactic increasingly employed by such criminal elements.

“The terrorists came to abduct residents of the community so they could collect ransom before releasing them,” the community leader revealed, shedding light on the perpetrators’ cold-blooded strategy.

The abduction of predominantly married women adds another layer of distress to the already grieving community. Families now find themselves grappling with uncertainty and fear as they await news of their loved ones and the potential ransom demands that may follow.

As security forces intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the release of the abducted individuals, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent security challenges facing communities in Zamfara State.
